Friendship IMG_9319 IMG_9320IMG_9318

Distance means so little when friendship means so much.  Being away from close friends is hard, especially when they’re 700 miles apart.  With that being said, I still would not trade this friendship I have with one of my best friends for the world!  Caroline and I first met at camp the summer of freshman year of high school. (yes, that long ago.) We always kept in contact but never found the time to visit one another.  A little over a year ago, I went to visit her in Florida! It was such an awesome experience to see my best friend after such a long time. Those facetime calls turned into being reunited again! As we changed from many years before, we were still the same.  She was still the quirky Caroline that I knew from all those years before.  As I left Florida, I wasn’t sure when we would see each other again.  UNTIL this week, she told me that she’s coming to North Carolina for a visit! sooooo exciting to be united with her again! Being away from people you’re close with is hard. But luckily, technology is amazing and can connect with each other as often as one allows.  (prepare yourself, this is about to get cheesy…) one day away from them is another day until you see them again. So, to those who’s best friend is across the country, you’re one day closer to seeing them again. Besides, true friendship cannot be destroyed by distance.  Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!!

date ideas

couple beach

If you’re anything like me, being indecisive and having “date-night idea” block is a major struggle.  I usually have to sit in a parking lot on my phone looking up ideas on what to do on a date.  Well, after gathering a list of date ideas, I’ve decided to help others with the same problem as me.  Here’s a list of 20 of my fun, exciting and relaxing date ideas.

  1.  Go for a hike  –  Usually, I walk a trail near a lake or in the woods with noticeable trail pathways. (I’m not trying to become the next victim in a horror movie.)
  2. Make dinner together  –  This is probably my favorite idea off this list because who can go wrong with cooking (besides the obvious) and if you mess up, it’s something to laugh about!!
  3. Go fishing  –  I guess my southern girl is coming out… I’ve never been fishing until a few weeks ago. I might say, it’s a pretty fun date idea.  Especially if you have a ‘contest’ on how many fish you can catch!
  4. Stargaze  –  Another fun, cheap, and cheesy date idea. Watching the stars on a nice summer night is one of the best ways to spend an evening. especially when the sun begins to set. sooooo romantic!
  5. Go for a drive  –  Have you ever just drove around for fun? No place to be, just you and your significant other. It sounds pretty lame but it’s nice listening to music and just talking!
  6. Have a board game night  –  this one could be harder with only two people, but find a board game that can play with 2+ people. You may think you’re an ‘oldie’ doing it… but the competitive sides will show which is really fun. I lost twice in ‘Clue’, yet I still won’t admit it 😉 (yes, we played Clue with 2 people. don’t ask…)
  7. Go to the zoo  –  Depending where you live, the zoo can be free or really expensive.  I know that the zoo in Washington D.C. is free, that’s why it made the list. But the nearest zoo to me is extremely expensive. (so if you live in D.C., you’re set with a fun and free, date! along with other free museums in DC, i know there’s a lot!)
  8. Go to the driving range  –  lol at me trying to play golf. I swear, I was doing better with swinging like happy Gilmore than when I was actually trying. But for your guys (or girls) that know how to golf, super cute how they show you how to swing correctly!
  9. Spend a day at the beach  –  Once again, this depends on where you live.  Luckily living near the East Coast has it’s perks as the nearest beach is only an hour away! If you don’t have a beach close to you, or don’t want to make that drive, the nearest lake is really fun too!)
  10. Have a photo shoot with a self timer  –  This is really fun to me! I usually set up my phone in an area and set the timer and jump around until I get a cute shot! It’s hilarious what kind of shots you get!
  11. Visit a museum  –  Like #7, depends if the museum is free or cheap… learning is fun. knowledge is power!
  12. Dance  –  I’m a HUGE advocate for dancing! Bored? Turn on some music and dance. So much fun!!!
  13. Go window shopping  –  you can look ….. but you can’t touch 😉
  14. Play on the playground  –  it’s always fun to relive childhood. swinging and sliding is the best!
  15. Whip cream fight  –  Messy, but really fun!
  16. Concerts  –  AH! One of my favorite things to do, especially in the summer time!! Such a fun date night!
  17. Picnic  –  cheesy. but a classic date idea. and food is always a good idea.
  18. Movie night  –  Once again, this is one of those ideas that everyone has but it’s nice to catch up on netflix movies when you’re busy all week with school and work!  Currently obsessing over The Princess Bride!!! Classic!
  19. Explore new towns  –  When I get bored with nothing to do, I like visiting new places I haven’t been to often.  I usually drive 30 minutes to an hour to get to the new place then see what they have to offer! It’s fun to get a little lost. (safely of course)
  20. Make lists together  –  setting goals, bucket lists, etc., is really fun for those people who love lists. (I’m one of those…)

Here are my 20 fun date ideas!! I haven’t completed all of them yet but am excited to do so! these are just what i’ve come up with.  Pretty straight forward but i’ve found that they’re fun & entertaining. I hope these are of slight help!! Let me know what your favorite date night is!? Thanks for reading!!!

Murphy's LawCop

Ahh!! Cops. Police Officer. Patrolmen (or woman). Whatever you want to call them, they’re always there and are suppose to enforce rules and regulations that need to be followed.  With that being said, after these years of driving all around, I finally (ha) got pulled over.  I’ve always wandered when my day will come.  You see people all the time pulled over on the side of the road but never realize when it’s your turn. Friday was my not so lucky day.  I dropped off my roommate at her hair appointment Friday and headed off to Target to get a bathing suit (and other items that wasn’t on my list but who can go into Target and get only one thing…) for my life guarding class at 6. I was running a few minutes late because I just had to shop all around Target. Guilty. But I forgot my towel for my class, I had to head back home. While on the way back, I stopped at the (what seemed like) the longest light EVER. I was patient (surprisingly) and waited for the left arrow to turn green.  Finally it turned green so I drove through. Now, getting to the cop… I come up to a cross walk and see cars in the other lane stop, I slowed down, wondering what was going on but didn’t think too much of it so I looked both ways to see if any one was walking (no one was in the middle of walking across the street, but someone was walking up to it) then drove through.  Well, the cop didn’t like how I drove through without stopping at the cross walk… So all I hear behind me is that awful sounding “whooooop whooooop.” My initial thought was “they’re so going after someone in front of me.” I looked ahead after looking in the mirror…. no one was in front of me. “What did I do?!” After 4 times of him buzzing his siren at me, I finally pulled over. (I knew that there was a parking lot up ahead so I pulled in the parking lot instead of pulling on the right side of the road. Again, first time getting pulled so I didn’t know what to do.)  The man comes up to me and explains to me that I did not stop at the mandatory stop cross walk. I gave him licenses and registration (thank you daddy for showing me what to give the cops when I was 16. I still remembered.) Might I add, only did I shed 3 tears and this was when the officer went back to his car. When he came back I was like “Come on Emily!!!! Get yourself together!!” THANKFULLY, I only had a verbal warning, told him it won’t happen again, and drove home.  Looked at the time and I was going to be soooo late for my life guarding class. I called the instructor explaining minor details of what happened and said that I will be there as soon as I can.  While on the way to the class, it began to pour. And when I say pour, I really mean pour! I could hardly see the roads! I assumed that God just didn’t want me at the class. Long story short, I also went to the wrong address. Drove an extra 11 minutes to get to my destination. Then FINALLY arrived. 30 minutes late but still rude to show up late in my opinion.  At the end of the class, the instructor told (all four of us) not to be late tomorrow. Ha! Sorry!!!

Has anyone heard of stopping at a mandatory cross walk?! I’ve passed through that area multiple times without any issues & don’t recall learning about it in drivers ed. (that was years ago but still!!)  friday just wasn’t my day! Anyways!! I hope everyone’s Friday was better than mine! 😉 It was a series of unfortunate events.  That being said, it takes bad days to appreciate the good ones! All is well over here and today is a new day! Sorry for such a long post!  I hope everyone has a great week & thanks for reading!!

please note: I am not bashing police officers in anyway. Law is good.

Update:  I drove through it again. it had a yield on the sign.  No one was currently crossing yet they were walking up to it.
